Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of earning a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
