The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."

"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
