Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
