Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
